The BMW i8 continues to wow consumers and critics alike. Earlier this month at the New York International Auto Show, the i8 was awarded the 2015 World Green Car Award, proving once again that the impressive vehicle does not eschew substance in favor of style.
The i8 was chosen to be honored with the award by 75 international jurors at the World Car Awards. The jurors made their decision based on a recommendation from five experts selected by the World Car Awards Steering Committee.
In a press release from the World Car Awards, experts shared their assessment of the vehicle: “The BMW i8 gasoline hybrid looks so cool, it should be the icon for all “Green” cars..So it inspires Green Passion, which on paper looks like 155 mph on the i8’s three cylinder turbo gasoline engine, four-wheel-drive and four seats. The i8 adds so much enjoyment to a sensible lifestyle that it needs to be recognized as a great Green Car.”
The i8 is the third BMW vehicle to take home the World Green Car Award. Back in 2008, the 118d was received the award and i3 was honored last year.
“I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the team in Munich,” said Dr. Ian Robertson, member of the board of management of BMW AG at the award ceremony in New York. “The BMW i8 represents the future with its unique lightweight construction and unrivalled connectivity. To win this award for the second year in a row shows that our BMW i products are truly leading the world.”
The i8 is the first plug-in hybrid offering from BMW. It boasts stylish looks, sporty performance and an average fuel consumption comparable to a subcompact car.
