BMW has made a serious commitment to environmental responsibility by announcing it is going to produce a hybrid plug-in version of every core model it makes. This is a bold move by BMW, and is likely prompted by the major success of the company’s i8 plug-in hybrid. This vehicle’s success has already encouraged BMW to introduce its technology to other formats, allowing the auto maker to expand their already impressive model lineup.
The creation of hybrid plug-in versions will allow BMW to reduce the amount of emissions produced by its vehicles and increase the fuel economy of those vehicles. This will help BMW to meet and exceed government regulatory standards anywhere BMW is sold.
First up is the 3 Series, with a prototype on the horizon, but very few details have been released. We know nothing about the powertrain BMW will use to create the hybrid plug-in. The auto industry has long acknowledged the plug-in hybrid as a bridge between gas-powered vehicles and completely electric vehicles, a way of acclimating the consumer to the idea of driving a vehicle that runs entirely off electricity. While BMW is venturing down this path, it is also keeping other options open as well. The automaker has not ruled out the possibility of building vehicles that consume alternative fuels such as hydrogen fuel cells in the near future.
The staff at BMW of Freehold is excited to represent a brand that is so committed to protecting the environment. We look forward to providing our customers with so many options in the near future. Please call, contact us online, or stop by today with any questions you may have or to test drive one of our new BMW vehicles.
