BMW’s new 2015 i8 has turned many heads as a result of its futuristic exterior, including the team at BMW of Freehold. But reviews of the hybrid sports car are pouring in and, by all accounts, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.
In a review for the New York Daily News, Nick Kurczewski cited the car’s 228-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine tied to a 6-speed automatic with paddle-shifters, as well as the 29-horsepower electric motor with a 2-speed transmission used during electric-only driving.
“All this tech wizardry provides the i8 with a vast combination of front, rear, or all-wheel-drive,” Kurczewski writes.
“This is a supercar you could comfortably use every day, without exception,” he added.
Bill Saporito of Time praised the comfortability of the electric-only eDrive mode.
“You drift along as if you are driving a submarine in an urban aquarium, motoring in near silence as spectators gawk,” Saporito writes.
“To me, it’s all about the ride,” he added. “And the i8 is just ridiculously fun to drive.”
Bloomberg Business’ Hannah Elliott was impressed by the i8’s interior, which she claims, “stands up perfectly to its exterior.”
“I like the small, tight steering wheel, the spheric leather seats, the auto-dimming mirrors, the heated seats, and the Harman Kardon surround sound,” she writes.
“It’s an important, exciting car that drives well and looks hot,” Elliott writes.
