BMW i3 Named as ‘Green Car of the Year’ Finalist

As the 21st century progresses, people are becoming more and more aware of their impact on the environment. The automobile industry is a perfect example, with just about every automaker now offering hybrid and all-electric options to consumers. Here at BMW of Freehold, we are proud to say that BMW is doing its part as the i3 was recently named a finalist for the ‘Green Car of the Year’ award from Green Car Journal.

The award is designed to showcase the most advanced efforts being made by top automakers to reduce emissions and enhance environmental progress. In its 10th year, it is considered to be the most prestigious environmental award in the auto industry. It is a real honor to be named a finalist, as only five vehicles were selected overall. The BMW i3 will be competing against the likes of the Audi A3 TDI, Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel, Honda Fit, and Volkswagen Golf.

What sets the i3 apart is its efficient all-electric engine combined with the incorporation of efficiency into all of its materials. For example, the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and aluminum frame drastically reduce its weight making for a more efficient and powerful ride. This unique model also comes with an available internal combustion engine. This option is designed to extend its range by charging the battery. The result is an extremely practical electric vehicle that not only drastically reduces emissions, but also offers practicality and comfort that other electric models have yet to achieve.

While it is an honor the i3 was even named as a ‘Green Car of the Year’ finalist, our team at BMW of Freehold believes it has a great shot at winning the title!
